Starting a journey towards better health often begins with good intentions, but it can quickly become overwhelming due to excessive pressure and self-doubt. We’ve all been there – setting ambitious health goals, only to slip back into old habits, leading to frustration and self-criticism. What if there was a way to approach this journey with joy and motivation instead of feeling burdened?
Finding Joy and Motivation in Your Health Journey
In a recent workshop that I delivered, we explored the art of resetting health goals and finding new inspiration for a healthier life. Through techniques like intention-setting, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), and guided visualisation, we discovered how to release self-imposed pressure and embrace joy in our pursuit of health and wellness.
Setting Intentions:
Our journey to better health starts with intention. What do you want to change in your life? Whether it’s losing weight, getting fitter, or adopting healthier eating habits, defining your goals gives you a clear path to follow.
Releasing Pressure:
One common pitfall is the pressure we put on ourselves. It often stems from discomfort, pain, or dissatisfaction with our current state. We create strict plans and rely on sheer willpower, turning our journey into an uphill battle. Sadly, this approach often leads us back to our old habits, leaving us feeling defeated.
To break this cycle, we introduced EFT aka Tapping. By gently tapping on specific acupuncture points and acknowledging our beliefs about needing pressure to change, we can let go of the stress and emotional baggage tied to this belief. This helps us address the emotional aspects holding us back from change.
Finding Joy:
We shifted our perspective from seeing our health journey as a painful process to one filled with pleasure and satisfaction. Healthy habits should not be a burden. People who succeed in maintaining their health routines do so because they enjoy the process, not just the end results.
We learned that taking care of ourselves can and should be enjoyable. Instead of focusing solely on distant goals, we found pleasure in the daily actions that make us feel good. By making healthier choices feel natural and enjoyable, we can establish lasting, sustainable habits.
Guided Visualisation:
One inspiring exercise involved connecting with our future selves. Through guided visualisation, we envisioned how we want to live in the future and received guidance and motivation from our future selves. This exercise reminded us that the line between reality and imagination is flexible. By acting on positive thoughts and actions in the present, we can work towards our desired future reality.
Reflection and Commitment:
To solidify our transformation, we reflected on our intentions, why they mattered, and made concrete plans to achieve them. We also considered what to let go of and what to embrace in our journey to improved health and wellness. Additionally, we identified three immediate actions to take on our path to better health.
Remember, your health journey is not just about reaching the end goal; it’s about embracing self-compassion and committing to making each day count. With clear intentions, self-compassion, and a focus on self-care, you have the power to create a healthier and more fulfilling life. Your journey begins now, and with each step forward, you get closer to realising your health and wellness goals.
